THE ACORN
The idea to plant a vineyard on the corner of Lakeview Canyon and Agoura Road came, appropriately, over a glass of wine. John Notter, owner of the Westlake Village Inn, wanted a vineyard. He had grown up in Switzerland where his family owned several vineyards. He asked his chief financial officer, Chris Cuilty, to find one. “The suggestion was made over the course of a glass of wine with a friend of mine, who said, ‘If you want a vineyard you should put it right on this corner,’” Cuilty said. THE ACORN
The Agoura Hills City Council voted 4-1 last week to deny a cell tower at Lindero Canyon Middle School, despite a contract signed earlier between the phone company and the Las Virgenes Unified School District that permits an antenna on the campus. Rina Baraz Nehdar and Deborah Lopez, residents of Agoura Hills, launched the fight against T-Mobile and presented arguments against the antenna during two public hearings with the city and at a meeting with the school board. SIMI VALLEY ACORN
In the wake of new warnings about how to use a Taser stun gun, local authorities are determining how, if at all, they’ll modify their own policies. Taser International, the company that manufactures stun guns used by most police and sheriff’s departments, recently released a bulletin warning against deploying a Taser into a person’s chest. THOUSAND OAKS ACORN
The shelves of Thousand Oaks’ food bank were emptied on Fri, Oct. 23 when a record number of families came to the charity for help. The next day, volunteers from Ascension Lutheran Church and Girl Scout Troop No 60965 and a local family showed up and refilled the bare cupboards. No one in need who lives in Conejo Valley is turned away. READ MORE
