The Acorn
honors Meals on Wheels
In this week’s Acorn, readers are being given an opportunity to subscribe to their favorite weekly newspaper. Not to worry, your Thursday Acorn will still be offered as a free publication. This voluntary subscription drive is simply The Acorn’s way of giving something back to the community, as almost half the subscription proceeds will go to charity.

Please print out, complete and return our subscription form, or complete our convenient online subscription form to begin your annual subscription. The cost is $25 for one year. Forty percent of the revenues from this endeavor will be donated to the Meals on Wheels organization, which delivers daily hot and cold meals to people who are confined to their home. The voluntary subscriptions will also help us defray the escalating costs of printing and delivery and help maintain the high quality of local news we provide to you each week.

We think we’re worth it.

So is Meals on Wheels, which has been providing food for local individuals for 30 years. It’s our hope that your contribution—and ours—will help this dedicated group continue its deliveries to people in need.

Each Monday through Friday a team of volunteer drivers picks up the meals at the organization’s base in Westlake Village and delivers them to about two dozen recipients in the Agoura Hills, Oak Park, Westlake area. Some of the clients are elderly, others have illnesses or disabilities that make it hard for them to prepare their own meals. All of them are deeply appreciative when the doorbell rings.

“A lot of times we’re the only person they’ll see all day,” says Roger Garretson, a volunteer driver and vice president of the Meals on Wheels board of directors. “It’s one of the highlights of my week.”

With your support of The Acorn subscription drive, we can make sure Meals on Wheels continues its commendable work.

You might be wondering, “Will I still get The Acorn even if I don’t subscribe?” Of course you will. Please note that this voluntary subscription will only apply to residents already receiving the newspaper.

Join us in our effort to be a good neighbor. We appreciate your support, and we look forward to seeing you next Thursday. We’ll be there.
